"The Lady in the Van" by Alan Bennett

Performed at The Theatre, Battersea Park School from Wednesday January 11th to Saturday January 14th 2012, we had particularly good audiences for a well-received show.

Adapted by the author from his autobiographical memoir, The Lady in the Van tells the story of Miss Mary Shepherd, whom Alan Bennett first came across when she was living in the street near his home in Camden Town. Taking refuge with her van in his garden originally for three months, she ended up staying fifteen years. Funny, touching and unexpectedly spectacular, The Lady in the Van marked the return to the stage of one of our leading playwrights.

Here are some pictures from the show:

Alan Scott as Alan Bennett, Annette Anderson as Miss Shepherd, Terry Wynne as Alan Bennett 2.

Alan Scott as Alan Bennett, Annie Greenslade as Mam.

Helen Mason as Pauline, Richard Trout as Rufus, Alan Bennett's neighbours.

"Under Milkwood" by Dylan Thomas

It was standing room only at our rehearsed reading of "Under Milkwood" by Dylan Thomas, directed by Alan Scott, upstairs at The County Arms pub on Tuesday July 12th and the show was very well received. A strong Welsh contingent, together with the non-Welsh majority, sat back, sipped their drinks, closed their eyes and immersed themsleves in Dylan Thomas's imaginary world of the seaside village of Llareggub.

A performance is planned in the Autumn for the students of Battersea Park School, but we are keen to repeat it at other venues. If you know of others who may wish to see the show or can offer a suitable venue, please email us at info@commontouchtheatre.co.uk.
